Clock Movement | Fixing Time with Clock Repair

Fixing Time with Clock Repair

Having you experienced this? You wake up on a Monday morning and decide snooze a little bit more before getting up from bed to prepare yourself for work or school. Then you end up tossing and turning a few times in bed because as you notice, it is way too early to get moving. After which, you realize that the clock is no longer working then end up flying to the bathroom to take a shower for just 2 to 3 minutes and skip breakfast to make up for lost time. However, you still end up getting late. This is one of those nasty experiences that might get you into a pickle with your boss or teacher.

In this article, we’re going to help you avoid the same experience from ever happening again by discussing clock repairs. In case you get caught up with broken clocks, the person you need to fix this problem would be clockmakers. These persons have enough expertise in doing repairs for clocks as to the reason that they are expert craftsmen who design and built clocks by hand. Among the most experienced ones have the ability to make a missing or broken piece for a clock without access to the original component.

There are a lot of types of clock repair, which depends on the type of clock that needs some fixing up. First would be grandfather clock repair. This involves putting grandfather clocks back in tip top shape, which most of the time have problems with their weights. In here, you need to determine what kind of grandfather clock you have. You need to do this for you to figure out the proper placement of the clock weights. In general, grandfather clocks are classified as modern or antique. The clock weights are used to provide motive power, which is needed to operate the time, chime, and strike trains of this type of clock. In most cases of broken grandfather clocks, the weights are misplaced which in turn adversely affects the clock’s functioning.

Cuckoo clock repair, which is another type, involves restoring cuckoo clocks into optimum function. In doing this type of repair, you need to first to look up and determine if all the components of the cuckoo clock are present. By doing this you can check how many weights the clock has. If the clock only has a cuckoo bird and the time, then it only has two weights. You also need to check the cuckoo and as well as the other parts for damages.

A third would be antique clock repair. Among the most common problems in antique clocks that need some fixing include: the clock not running, the clock runs too fast or slowly, the clock only runs for a few minutes, the clock strikes at the wrong time, the clock does not chime, and the clock pendulum won’t swing.

Of course, there are many more kinds of clocks, and each has it’s own way that it works.  If you have a more unusual type of clock that needs fixing, it might be good to approach a watchmaker rather than try to fix it yourself.  Or, if you’re like me, you’ll just want to do all the research you can, and dive in, figuring out what needs to be done and making it happen.
